5 Netflix Stand-Up Specials You Need to See (Vol. 1)

Stand-up comedy has always been a huge part of my life, it has always been my refuge, the place where I can “escape” and take my mind off all my problems and worries.

These are some of the more recent stand-up special that I have seen and I want to recommend to you. If you are a fan of stand-up comedy, I’m sure you will enjoy them.

Before I start the list, let me just say that these are specials that I enjoyed watching, all of these comedians have relatively different styles from each other, I have no idea if you will enjoy them because I don’t know what is your preference in comedy.

I will not go in to too much details and I will not review any jokes, just a quick over view of the comedian and a bit of info about the special, and that’s it. If a special is on the list, it means I enjoyed it and I want to recommend it.

#1 Joe Rogan – Triggered (2016)

Joe Rogan is not only one of my favourite comedians but one of my favourite humans of all time. He’s stand-up special “Triggered” released 2016 on Netflix is the most funny special I have seen for the last 3-4 years. I enjoyed it so much I watched it 2 times in the span of a couple of months, which never happens to me (I watch a special once and then a second time 1 years later).

Story line – Unleashing his inquisitive, intense comedic style, Rogan explores everything from raising kids and Santa Claus to pot gummies and talking to dolphins.

Time – 1 hour 03 minutes

Release Date – 21 October 2016 (USA)

Distribution – Netflix

Subtitles – French, Arabic, English, Traditional Chinese, Polish

#2 Louis C.K – Louis C.K 2017 (2017)

This is the newest Louis C,K special, I actually watched it a week ago, I had no idea he has something new out, I really enjoyed it, he hasn’t put out a new special for quite some time, so I was very surprised when I stumble across this one. I really enjoy he’s style of comedy, I can summarise he’s style with 3 words – Rude, observation comedy.

Story line – Louis C.K. muses on religion, eternal love, giving dogs drugs, email fights, teachers and more in a live performance from Washington, D.C

Time – 1 hour 14 minutes

Release Date – 4 April 2017 (USA)

Distribution – Netflix

Subtitles – French, Arabic, English, Traditional Chinese, Polish

#3 Bill Burr – I’m Sorry You Feel That Way (2014)

This is not the latest Bill Burr special, but this is the one I watched recently so it’s still fresh in my mind. I really enjoyed this one, I’m a huge Burr fan, but the thing that I really liked in this one is that the whole special was in black and white and there ware no cut scenes to the crowd laughing (at least I couldn’t remember to be any). It made a huge difference for me, whenever there is a cut scene to the crowd laughing I lose my focus and I need to start all over again.

Story line – Bill Burr escapes the zombie apocalypse, explores how rom-coms ruin great sex and explains how too many childhood hugs may be the downfall of man.

Time – 1 hour 20 minutes

Release Date – 5 December 2014 (USA)

Distribution – Netflix

Subtitles – English

#4 Frankie Boyle – Hurt Like You’ve Never Been Loved (2016)

Let me just say that Frankie Boyle style of comedy is not for every one, very dark, blue and cruel… just the way I like my jokes! He is one of Britain’s most famous and controversial comedians. He also has a Scottish accent which makes the jokes even more hard-hitting. If you’re in the mood for something more offensive and out there he is your guy.

Story line – This notoriously controversial comedian delivers devastating social commentary by way of one-liners about the economy, corruption and more.

Time – 1 hour 04 minutes

Release Date – 1 April 2016 (USA)

Distribution – Netflix

Subtitles – English

#5 Tom Segura – Mostly Stories (2016)

I discovered Tom Segura, very recently And to be honest I really enjoyed he’s style of comedy. I watched 2 of he’s comedy specials. Mostly Stories is he’s latest one. He’s style is more chilled out and with a slower off beat delivery then some of the other comics. But never the less I think you will enjoy it.

Story line – The bearded, bawdy and comically bitter Tom Segura gets real about body piercings, the “Area 51” of men’s bodies, and the lie he told Mike Tyson.

Time – 1 hour 13 minutes

Release Date – 8 January 2016 (USA)

Distribution – Netflix

Subtitles – French, Arabic, English, Traditional Chinese, Polish
