5 Netflix Stand-Up Specials You Need to See (Vol. 2)

You can find Vol 1 here – 5 Netflix Stand-Up Specials You Need to See (Vol.1)

These are some of the more recent stand-up special that I have seen and I want to recommend to you. If you are a fan of stand-up comedy, I’m sure you will enjoy them.

Before I start the list, let me just say that these are specials that I enjoyed watching, all of these comedians have relatively different styles from each other, I have no idea if you will enjoy them because I don’t know what is your preference in comedy.

I will not go in to too much details and I will not review any jokes, just a quick over view of the comedian and a bit of info about the special, and that’s it. If a special is on the list, it means I enjoyed it and I want to recommend it.

#1 Dave Chappelle – The Age of Spin

One of the all time greats, Dave Chappelle is back with a couple of new specials on Netflix, I will list the rest of them in other posts, if you have been living under a rock for the last 15 years and you don’t know who Dave Chappelle is , go to YouTube and watch some episodes of he’s show (that brought him in to the mainstream) “Chappelle Show” and then go and see the special. And for those who know who he is, you can jump right in to it.

At his first LA show in 10 years, Chappelle charges straight into the fire with bits on Bill Cosby, O.J. Simpson and his own brushes with controversy.

Time – 1 hour 07 minutes

Release Date – 21 March 2017 (USA)

Subtitles – Polish, English, Traditional Chinese, Arabic, French

#2 Tom Segura – Disgraceful

Tom Segura was featured in Vol.1 of these series of posts, “Disgraceful” is the latest stand-up that he reliased with Netflix. I watched this special twice so far, I’m a big fan of Segura. Differently worth the watch.

Story line – Tom Segura gives voice to the sordid thoughts you’d never say out loud, with blunt musings on porn, parking lot power struggles, parenthood and more.

Time – 1 hour 11 minutes

Release Date – 12 January 2018 (USA)

Subtitles – Arabic, Polish, French, English, Traditional Chinese

#3  Jerry Seinfeld – Jerry before Seinfeld

The king of observational comedy, Seinfeld hasn’t released a stand-up special in a long time, so I was very pleased when I saw this one. It’s a master class in stand-up. Jerry is like a joke machine in this one, really polished, crafted and well performed. He also tells the story of he’s comedy career in a great monologue jam packed with one lines and stories.

Story line – Jerry Seinfeld returns to the club that gave him his start in the 1970s, mixing iconic jokes with stories from his childhood and early days in comedy.

Time – 1 hour 1 minutes

Release Date – 19 September 2017 (USA)

Subtitles – Polish, English, Traditional Chinese, Arabic, French

#4 Jo Koy: Live from Seattle

I’ve recently stumble across this special, I wanted to include it, because I’m not sure that the casual stand-up fans are familiar with Jo Koy’s work, and I want the lists in these series of posts to have one or two “not so well know names” in them.  Defensively worth the watch, I’m currently looking in to more of he’s work, because he did such a good job on this one.

Story line – Between raising a teenage boy and growing up with a Filipino mother, stand-up comic Jo Koy has been through a lot. He’s here to tell you all about it.

Time – 1 hour 2 minutes

Release Date – 28 March 2017 (USA)

Subtitles – French, Arabic, English, Traditional Chinese, Polish

#5 Theo Von: No Offence

To be honest I watched this one, a while ago (I will re-watch it soon). All I remember is that this guy had such a cool southern accent and he was funny as hell.

Story line – Southern charmer Theo Von offers up a twisted take on his dating mishaps, meeting Brad Pitt, chasing down fugitive chimpanzees and more.

Time – 1 hour 6 minutes

Release Date – 26 February 2016 (USA)

Subtitles – French, Arabic, English, Traditional Chinese, Polish
